Brian Kostiw-In this year’s first edition of Sutton’s Athlete Spotlight we found two young athletes that will shape the groundwork for years to come at SHS. These two bright stars in Sutton sports are the youngest nominees to earn the title “Athlete of the Month” since this columns inception. These competitors are of course Golfer, Jack Moy and Sutton Girls Varsity Soccer MF/FORW, Sarah Beachman. Both of these young prodigies share two things in common. Both are members of the class of 2021 and also have played a key role in the overall success of their team this year and previous. Moy has been golfing for SHS since 8th Grade. Last year as a Freshman he secured the number 2 spot on the team behind current Franklin Pierce Golfer, Jarod Buffone and helped the team reach States where they placed 5th. This season Jack would stand out. He secured the #1 spot in all meets but one (Pat Edwards) and showed great improvement. In the DVC Championship Match, Jack shot the best out of all schools with a 78 on 18. Unfortunately, his valiant effort was not enough to bring home the title as Hopedale would reign victorious. While as a team, Sutton did not qualify for the District Match, Moy made it individually. At District’s he shot the 5th best score with an 81, as Sutton’s sole representative. Jack will also be representing Sutton at States, on the 29th of the October. Moy sat down to discuss his play, the team, and his early successes. On the year he said, “Although the team didn’t do as well as we’d hoped, I felt I had improved since last year, however I still got a long way to go”. Additionally, Jack told me who he credits for his early success saying, “Jarod (Buffone) has helped me a lot. Without his help I wouldn’t be at the level I am right now”. Mr. Milaszewski, Jack’s Coach, also spoke on Jack’s overall performance saying, “Jack Moy has played exceptionally well this season. As a young player, he has stepped up and tried to take on leadership roles on the team. He often communicates with me during the day or during practice not about himself, but about other teams and lineups for upcoming contests.” Milaszewski, continues to praise Jack saying, “As he grows and matures as a player, he will continue to improve and establish himself as a top-performing golfer in the region”. These tremendous achievements plus demonstrating leadership from a young age definitely shows why Jack Moy is our athlete of the month for the Sammies. On the girls side Sarah Beachman has also played a key role for SGVS. A member of Varsity since Freshman year, Beachman played a crucial role in the Suzie’s State Championship victory of Archbishop Williams last November. Over the 24 games she played last year she had 13 Goals, 7 Assists, and had 33 total points. While those numbers are not shabby at all by a 9th Grader on a perennial championship contender, the young midfielder has proven that her best soccer is yet to come. At the publishing of this article, through the 15 games she has played this year, Sarah has already scored more goals than all of her Freshman campaign with a total of 16. In addition to this her points per game have nearly doubled. Beachman responded on what it is like being a young player playing such a crucial role on an incredibly competitive team saying, “It feels good contributing to the team but my teammates make the experience even better by making me a better player”. As they gear up at a run to defend their title, Beachman shared what is keeping her and her teammates focused as the playoffs approach. She shared that, “We are preparing by working hard at practices and bringing that into our games ”. This work ethic is why Sarah Beachman is October’s female athlete of the month.

3rd Year In Journalism

I love to write and I had a great time in my first year. It helped with my communication skills and writing skills.

I really like writing and I love to play volleyball, soccer, and tennis.

The hardest thing I'm doing now is applying for colleges and figuring out my future.

The 2018-19 Movement Staff is proud to announce the completion of our first newspaper of the year! This year we have also taken the initiative to move the paper to the online service you are currently using. With these great accomplishments, we also thought it would be beneficial that we, as a staff introduce each other to you.
